CHOOSING THE RIGHT CHOPPING BOARD

Cutting boards are arguably one of the most important tool in your kitchen. Having a good cutting board, can save you a lot of time and help you prep faster. There are different types of cutting board available in different sizes, so there are number of things to consider before choosing the correct one  

 

End Grain Wooden Boards:

This is the top of the line in wood cutting boards. End Grain means that individual wooden tables are arranged so that the wood grain runs vertically (up and down). Therefore, one end of each panel is positioned such that the cutting surface is actually end of many individual pieces of hardwood. With this alignment, when the knife meets the surface during cutting, the wood grain actually  separates and then closes when the blade is removed. So the wood itself is not cut, but you are cutting between the fibers, which means it is kinder to the knife’s edge. These kinds of board last longer and also because due to its beautiful appearance, makes our kitchen more attractive.


Edge Grain Cutting Boards: 

Edge Grain Cutting Board is the opposite of that above described. The orientation of the grain is horizontal from side to side. These boards are recognized for their durability and lower price, but they tend to dull your knives

 

Plastic Cutting Boards:

Plastic Chopping board are usually made of Polypropylene which is BPA-free. The major advantage of this board is, its easy clean-up, they are also dishwasher safe. Besides that, you can choose different colors for different types of foods, for example, you can choose red and black color for raw meat, while green and white board are normally used for vegetables and fruit. Because of the softer surface of plastic boards, it wouldn’t dull your knives.

 

Glass Cutting Boards :

Glass Cutting Boards are non-porous and it won't harbor bacteria so it is a hygienic option for use in food preparation. It is also easy to clean. They are machine washable. But due to its quite hard surface, it can cause your knives to get dull really fast. and can cause a potential damage to your knives. Being a durable item, glass cutting boards are easier to break than many other types of chopping boards.

 

To sum it up, there is no one-size fits all cutting board. It usually depends upon person to person, every cook has different priorities to consider before purchasing a cutting board.
